How to get postal code from IP address

I need to retrieve the user's postal code based on the IP address using python or asp. I see some tutorials mention about API, but that we need send request and query from the provider's server. It would be better if I can host it in my own application server isn't it?

There is no direct relation between postal zones and IPs, but there are people who will sell you a database which will help you out.

A reminder that out there there are always people who want to capture information about you. Nil carborundum illigitimi!

The postal ip address will be the address of the ISP, not the user. My ISP is shown as having an address in Southampton, many miles from where I am.

All the code given in this post has been tested and is intended to address the question asked.
Unless stated otherwise it is not just a demonstration.
