Flash Menu's
Hello,
I was wondering how to do a special type of flash menu. IN many websites (including yahoo), I have seen a cool flash effect. I have 3 Flash books, and I have looked at about 6 Flash websites to find tutorials, and I have yet to find out how to do this. What I want to do, is create a Flash SWF, that is only about 900px wide, and 20px in height. The type of menu that I am creating is a dropdown menu. What I would like to happen, is when a user clicks on one of the buttons in the flash swf, I want the dropdown menu to extend out of the flash swf height range. Thank you :D |
There is a
tutorial on this at Flashkit.com:

Oh, thank you, but no thank you. I guess I wasnt specific enough with my question. With that tutorial, the flash thing is a fixed size. What I am looking for, is something like that, but not quite. Okay, you have a flash box, and its width is 50px, and its height is 50px. THen, you click a little button, and a little bar goes out, and it is longer than 50-px. And then, when it goes back in, the flash size stays the same. And, the background underneath the flash menu is transparent, and when it comes out, you can right click the dropdown part, and the little flash right click thingy comes down (the little menu that comes down whenever you right click a flash document), but when it goes back in, and you right click where the dropdown menu thing was, u dont get the flash right click menu thingy.
Am I making any sense? (I know I used the word "thingy", in that paragraph about 5 billion times, and I know that the word "thingy", is not very descriptive, but that is the best I could possibly describe it, without posting a link to an example, which I dont know where any are at this current time) |
Do you want
to embed this in html? If I understand you correctly, you want a flash menu that has a transparent background and when you mouse over slides out over the html portion of the page. Transparency may be possible, I have had better luck just using images and lining them up carefully (one in the .swf aligned with what is in the html). You will never get the menu to expand out over the edge of the .swf. That is a limitation in working with Flash in an html table based page. The flash can only be where the flash movie is.
Does this clarify anything? |

I have never been successful using a transparent flash bg. I have just heard it can be done.

I had a similar issue when trying to build a menu. I never considered Flash, but I was using a Javascript/DOM type menu in a frame as I needed the menu to be at the top of the screen at all times.
I ended up going with a Java Applet and it worked well for me. I don't know that you'll be able to make it very flashy though.. Good luck, Sadiq. |
A Java applet? Jesus mate - you trying to start a retro trend ;)
What you could do, if a flash navbar is what you want, is use the flash to trigger DHTML menus - like this: http://www.udm4.com/demos/popup-flash.php |
Brothercake, what you sent me a link to is actually just about what I was looking for :D Except the popup menu's that my flash thing loads, are going to be flash themselves... If I decide to do it that way :D Thanks alot Brothercake :D
Thanks 2 everyone for posting :D |
