spanish language domain extensions

Hello,
I tried posting this to domains section of the forum but it was asking the specific domain... so i am posting it here

I bought both .es and .com version of the same spanish phrase. But I am not sure which one to use. Can you advise - if you reallly have good idea on it? Which one is more popular? Think about the world spanish speaking people not only spain or mexico or hispanic people in usa etc... this is targeted for everybody that reads spanish...

There really isn't a top level domain for "everybody that speaks spanish". Here's a chart of TLD usage, which tells me the answer:

You could certainly point both domains to the same place, if there's a thought that the .es domain will bring in visitors.

I would use .com for international sites and redirect the .es domain to .com since the extension really is a country code, not a language code and .com has developed into a general universal domain.

People from Mexico, Argentina, or Hispanics in the United States are probably not feeling adressed with a domain for Spain while they would be more with a .com domain. Also, it will give your business or whatever a more international image.
