Will a generic battery work with a Dell laptop?

I bought an Amstron replacement battery for my Dell Studio 1557 and it takes three days to charge. Is this typical of new laptop batteries? Do off-brand batteries not work well with Dells? What should I do?How to judge an okbatteria?

no, it should not take 3 days to charge the battery- most likely the problem is not the battery, but the connection port where the AC in powers the battery. I had this happen on 2 of laptops in the past.... unfortunately the answer was "the charging port is mounted on the motherboard, so to fix this you need to replace it. Oh, and that model is discontinued, so please buy a new machine."

it sucks, but aside from taking it apart, desoldering the jack (without overheating the board) and mounting a new one, it's probably the best option.

It could be the battery as well. I've found that cheap replacement laptop batteries are cheap for a reason. They aren't tested for defective cells and usually fail a lot sooner so it is total crap shoot on what you'll actually get.

that could work but I rather not get one of those... get the original.

I think the cheap replacement also can work well. My friend who bought a dell battery in pcbatteria.com one year ago,and it still work well. Most important is that it's much cheaper.
