Format for downloadable items site
 

Need some ideas…
I will start a section on my magazine website for downloadable items such as apps, codes, documents etc.. on my subject, free or paid. My question is:
For this type of category what do you recommend as far as the site format? What type of site appearance or format or system would be suitable for something that provides free or paid downloadable items?
Note: My magazine site is in wordpress. My web coder told me that we can open a separate folder under main site just for this and do this with wordpress too as an entirely separate wordpress section (he told me wordpress is also widely used for things other than just blogs or news sites). What do you think?
