Looking for: PHP/Developer for web browser based RPG / Community game
Hi all
Thanks for reading, I am planning on creating a site which incorporates key concepts from many classic tabletop games, and merging this with online, real time browser based gameplay. I am not going to give away too many details at this point. I am an IT professional with a strong background in infrastructure, cloud hosting, high availability. I am also an avid game player. My coding skills are limited bar HTML. My knowledge of business, the marketplace, online identity, advertising, and IT infrastructure will make up for lack of coding skills. I am seeking one or more coders who think they are up for this challenge. All details i am willing to discuss, i have cash for investment in hosting, websites etc. I also have free access to sandbox/dev hardware and datacentre virtual machines. My initial thoughts would be a SQL back-end, PHP -> HTML front end. I have plans drawn out, rough initial designs. I also have contacts who are graphic designers. One example of a similar game would be: www.travian.com, very successful and profitable website. Please get in touch if you are interested, Thanks Adam. |
I would also like to mention i have a clear, thought out method of monetizing this.

Also PHP may not be the best method of doing this.

Uh, PHP would be the backend. PHP and SQL go hand in hand. PHP is the backend and SQL is database. If it's web based you're probably better off looking for a javascript programmer for front-end code (assuming you're wanting to use the awesome abilities of HTML5, and keep the game plugin free).

Thanks for the advice, as i said im not a dev/programmer.
I am not looking for animation / flash or 3D game. The most graphical part of the site will be the map. - The rest predominantly text based. I have hardware and hosting ready to use, and a lot of planning and research on file. |
I played Travian for a while, got pretty obsessed, really didn't like some of the aspects of the combat system and wide-spread griefing, so I set out to create my own game similar to Travian. I got a lot built and felt pretty good about the direction it was headed but then the weight of it bogged me down and it will probably never get finished.
I tell you all of this to also tell you there is a lot of work ahead of you, more than you realize, and if you are going to get any kind of professional coding done, you're going to have to pay real money. If you rely on volunteer work, you will have a hard time getting any one coder to stick with it for very long (likely your volunteers will be very young or in college and therefore pretty transient) so you'll end up with blocks of code no one understands, so the next volunteers will probably want to scrap what was done before (easier than trying to figure it out). Anyway good luck to you, I had tons of fun on my project as I learned a lot about AJAX and jQuery which I have been able to apply to my current work. |
Thanks for the advice Fumigator, this isn't trying to be a travian replica, it is more geared towards a turn based, mostly text game.
The map function will have parts of Risk and Diplomacy (board games) and provide a 'game within a game'. Without giving away too much information. I am looking for programmers who are willing to become partners on the project, i am also self learning PHP although i can't imagine i will be up to scratch enough for a while! |
Have got one developer on board, looking for another to spread the workload.
Note we don't necesarily need PHP developers! Thanks Adam |
Bump :)
