    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: session_start() in /srv/www/htdocs/index.php

    Any idea where this can be faulty?

    The installation is an apache2 on suse linux, something doesn't seem to be loaded or accessible.

    At least I was not aware that default functions needed to be declared first.

    Any idea's?

    what version of PHP are you running?
    If you're not sure try making a page that has
    PHP Code:
    echo phpinfo();
    on it and it should tell you all sorts of interesting information

    Though PHP sessions are not a PHP extension they can be disabled.
    I'm not sure if this was any help, but I hope it didn't make you stupider.

    Experience is something you get just after you really need it.
