    Online store payment.

    Hi,

I am coding my own online store and was wondering about the best ways to accept payment. My only idea so far is PayPal.

Are there any other ways to accept payment from credit cards or direct debit (possibly others) without them taking as much out for fees?

Also, I don't want to pay anything to set it up or per year.

    Thanks

I'd stick with PayPal, to be honest. Most of the online merchant gateways are more expensive or have huge setup fees or else they're just not so well known - the very fact that you don't know about them indicated that your potential clients are unlikely to have heard of them either. People are more likely to pay if they've heard of your payment processor and, let's face it, everyone has heard of PayPal by now, especially since eBay took over the whole world.

Price-wise PayPal are pretty cheap really, comparatively they're very easy to integrate with and it's not really worth saving a few pennies per sale if you risk driving away hordes of potential customers.

True, I was thinking that, but I was just checking.

It's always worth checking. When I first had to deal with e-commerce stuff I did a ton of dull research into different payment methods so if I can save just one other person some of the pain then it was all worthwhile
