    "Cannot use a scalar value as an array"

    The conflicting lines read:
    PHP Code:
    $GLOBALS['user']['id'] = $_SESSION['id'];
    $GLOBALS['user']['username'] = $_SESSION['username'];
    $GLOBALS['user']['level'] = $res2['level'];

    Okay, so what is $res2?
    Are you sure it's an array?

    If this post contains any code, I may or may not have tested it. It's probably just example code, so no getting knickers in a bunch over a typo, OK? If it doesn't have basic error checking in it, such as object detection or checking if objects are null before using them, put that in there. I'm giving examples, not typing up your whole app for you. You run code at your own risk.

    $res2 is just a mysql_fetch_assoc.

    Can you var_dump($res2);?
    I'm not sure if this was any help, but I hope it didn't make you stupider.

    Experience is something you get just after you really need it.

    Code:
    array(1) {
      ["level"]=>
      string(1) "1"
    }

    You didn't initialize that with a boolean, did you?

    Nope
    The two lines before the code I posted are:
    PHP Code:
    $sql2 $db->query ("SELECT `level` FROM `users` WHERE `id` = {$_SESSION['id']}");
    $res2 $db->fetch_assoc ($sql2);
    Neither $sql2 or $res2 have been initialised before this.

    Hmm. The code looks fine, then.
    Are you sure the lines you posted are the ones actually causing the error? Because sometimes the error line number can be a bit misleading.
    Comment out what you assume is causing the error and see if you still get it.

    Ah, I've found the bug

    I had a $user = new user; which was getting mixed up with $GLOBALS['user']
