    Pointers, Strings, Resources, OH MY!

I am new to php, and am lost amid the various "types" of variables! What I want to do is take an image from a form, compress it, resize it, and upload it to a database. Every different function I try fails to work, if anyone has a sample script that does this, any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

well i may have run into a lil stumbling block, the images to be compressed are approx 1 mb in size, and uplaoding them to the server for compression would likely cause the script to exceed its max run time of 15 seconds, any suggestions? (besides using an image app to resize first)

    Thanks
