Post phpbb2 - feed Author, Date to separate page

Is it possible to pass the Author and Date of the most recent thread to a separate page?

I want to display the latest thread info (Author and Date) on my index.xhtml page. But as I read through my manual I see no information on doing so.

set an empty table in your database with only one record - author, date, thread, and URL.
Then when a thread is posted, make it update this table with details.

You can then use your main page to access this and redisplay it as it will always display the last thread created.
