You don't need a compiler for php Just a normal text-editor will do

Also you might want to download phpdev http://codingforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3992

    Some tutorial sites are:

    http://www.zend.com
    http://www.w3schools.com
    http://www.phpfreaks.com
    http://www.phpbeginners.com

And also, this is a handy url to know too:

    http://www.php.net

And not forgetting good ole google, can be a lifesaver most the time

    http://www.google.com

Once you'll have installed phpdev don't forget to put your files in the www folder of the phpdev folder and to type http://localhost as your url to acceed your index/default page. That might be a bit confusing if you've never done that before and that you're not aware of it.

I've been attempting to set up php4 using apache, and am not having the best luck.

I have Apache 2.0.48 at c/program files/apache group/apache2 and downloaded php-4.3.4-installer at c/php. PHP4 has been installed, but I keep getting error messages that I am not properly setting up the Apache httpd.conf file to work with it (I am using all default settings during php setup).

I am using Windows 2000. Anyone have any ideas?

What do the errors say exactly?

thanks for gettign back so fast. when i click on php installer program on my desktop, it goes through the process, and I pick standard, localhost, me@localhost (all default), and then select Apache as Server Type. message is as follows

Sorry, the software to automatically configure the Apache httpd.conf file has not yet been written. You have to configure Apache manually. See the install.txt file for more details.

I have been within install.txt file in the c/php directory, but it is like a needle in a haystack (different versions, etc), I keep missing something. If anyone has read this, and can tell me the 2-3 files I need to copy/move/alter, I would be so gdm happy.

PHP's auto installer has never been written as far as I know.

Download the zip file for all the extensions and stuff (first windows link)

You will have to install manually via http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.php and scroll down to Manual Installation Steps

Better make a new thread of problems you get, just to stop spamming j2freak with emails not relevant to his/her thread
