Templates with pre-installed contact us forms

The template I'm using to build a website has a form on the 'Contact Us' page.

Is this just for show, as an example of how one would look, or will it be a fully functioning feature once the site is hosted somewhere?

I appreciate that I'd have to assign my own email address to the 'Submit' button, but is it as simple as that or would the functionality have to be handled by php or something?

yes the template could only provide the html interface, you would need to processs the input on the backend via PHP, unless it simply calls mailto onsubmit
    resistance is...

MVC is the current buzz in web application architectures. It comes from event-driven desktop application design and doesn't fit into web application design very well. But luckily nobody really knows what MVC means, so we can call our presentation layer separation mechanism MVC and move on. (Rasmus Lerdorf)
