Programmers notepad - opening php files in utf8 no mark

i have been researching how to make my programmers notepad open html and php files in utf8 no mark by default, since the mark is not supported fully.

I have set the default in settings to uft8 no mark and if i open a new file it works. But if i open an old file it opens as ANSI and even when i convert and save it to utf8 no mark, close it, and open it again, its back to ANSI.

I have read something awhile back about adding something to your registry on win7 64 bit but i dont remember or dont know if that works or not.

Anyone have any ideas on this..

    thanks

First paragraph suggests that you're working on a windows application.

Second one confirms it as PHP is rarely used to access the registry.

What language are you using to create this program and why are you asking in a php forum?

I am editing my php files using programmers notepad. Since i am using this "windows app" programmers notepad, to edit php files i thought i would ask in the php section as someone else might also use this when editing their files as well and might be able to share what they did.

Its a shot in the dark but was worth a try...

Oh I see.. from your op it sounded like your notepad was your own program lol.

Try notepad++. Sure it's a lot more basic but it's also very reliable

Sorry i was not precisely clear on that, when i saw your message i thought maybe i did something wrong...

Just so that others know. This is what i was referring to in my original post http://www.pnotepad.org/

I did download NP++ i played around with it a bit, and i do like how it forces utf8 no mark when you open files. How ever i am also concerned that there have been 9 updates just this year. This is both good and bad.

I really cant afford for code to be written and saved by something that is not stable. But i also trust your judgement and if you use it then it has to be ok. I will give it a whirl.

    Thanks ")

To be honest I install one version and leave it at that. Unless you notice a bug and need to upgrade to get rid of it, why bother with upgrading?
