Is PHP the language I need?

I need to write a script that will analyze the source code of a shopping website and determine whether a product is in stock or out of stock. I would need the code to be able to integrate with my website so that it can display whether the item is in stock or not. I would also like to be able to have it send me an email when something that is out of stock becomes in stock.

What language(s) do I need to start to learn. I have taken a class on C and I know decent HTML and CSS. What would be easiest for me to learn?

    Thanks for the help!

Find out if that shopping website offers an api that allows you to query information about products.

PHP should do the job. Infact to be honest, any language that can pull a webpage will do it. The thing is though, PHP is passive in the fact that it only does anything (by default) when you activate it via a http request. Other languages will compile a program that 'runs' constantly. You can do this with php too but webservers (especially shared servers) don't typically allow a user to do this. You could however use a cron job to trigger a script every few minutes.
My helpful sig is on vacation trying to loose some weight. It got a bit fat and caused a few problems but it will be back at some point!
