    Database sharing

This is slightly off the topic.. Consider example of makemytrip, cleartrip ans so on. How all these sites show the availability of a flight or a bus? I mean how does the database sharing happens? Could anyone explain in detail?

Simple answer would be that they do share the same database. There is no requirement that a db is provided on localhost.
More probable answer is that they are using a service for it. Simple ones such as XML feeds are useful for timed updates, and for realtime you would use a request/response approach with REST or SOAP services.
