How to get information from a website?

I've heard for this your suppose to use cURL. But I can't find any info on how to use cURL. I need information from a website for three different scripts.

    1) This script will get the length of a video from the site and then update a javascript refresh script with the time.

    2) This script has two parts. The first part will allow people to enter in a price in a html form. And the second part of the script will get the prices of multiple auctions on the site and then display auctions which have the price entered into the first part or a lower price.

    3) This script will allow people to choose a time frame from a html drop down box. Then it will get a link from my database and get the length of the video. (The link is the link to the video). Then another script which has already been made will display videos that have the time frame chosen. (ex. time frame: 1 minute to 3 minutes video length)
