Question Malicious Traffic on my site making server crash. Please help.

    Hi to all webmasters.

I am basically a PHP Programmer and Now I need urgent suggestions on what to do about this malicious traffic to my website making the server to crash.

The site which is live from more than an year ago on a server suddenly suspended by the hosting providers.

Taking into mind that the space issue on server when customers visit the site, We have changed the server to godaddy and the time I started uploading my files, got a mail from godaddy saying that malicious traffic is making the resources on the shared server down, so suspending your account.

I am not able to know what exactly the reason for this and this is happening from 4 days which is a huge loss for the company. You all webmasters please give me your valuable suggestions on this. Either because of traffic or either some one has hacked my code and has kept some malicious code into my files..

Note: This is a pharmacy site which is done using php and the oscommerce online merchant tool. And this site is top ranking in google in the 1st page.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your only sensible option is to move it onto a better host (or a vps/dedicated) where you can get access to the raw logs and troubleshoot this.

With GoDaddy being one of the most spam friendly hosting companies on the planet, it must really be going some to get kicked by them - so you obviously have a very serious issue that needs to be dealt with.

"This is a pharmacy site" rings alarm bells, btw. Probably a wrong assumption - but what kind of 'pharmacy site'?

Even If it is dedicated server I hope there is no assurance that the traffic will be reduced and this results again the same load on server.

I heard goDaddy is the top hosting provider. Could you please tell me how can I control this malicious traffic to my site either by some coding as in blocking Ips or through google analytics ?? What will be a better option??

    Please suggest.

You misunderstand. To attack the problem, you need to know what that problem is. Do you have logs? Have you identified what is 'malicious traffic'? Do you know what you are trying to stop?

Yes. I understood what the malicious traffic is... I heard about the Ddos Attact too.. I hope thatz what happening with my site.

I don't have logs now since the site is hosted on a shared server godaddy. They have disabled our account because of this malicious traffic, they mentioned this in their email. Also we noticed in our google web analytics that the traffic to our site is in millions per day. which caused the server to disable our account.

Please suggest is there any solution for this??

It's only a problem of hosting , move it to somewhere more professional , if you're well ranked on google your bussiness surly does well. Btw online phamacy has some pretty dubious merchants out there...hope you're not one of them.

Until you can actually explain what the problem is, and where it is coming from, how can anybody help you? What is the nature of the malicious traffic? How many sources? Is it a DDoS? Until you have a solid explanation of the exact problem nobody can hope to help beyond telling you to *firewall all connections on port 80/443*

To fight the problem, explain the 'malicious' traffic!
