creating an email form...the basic idea?

    Hello,

I'm new at web development, and new to this forum. This looks like a great place, so I'm excited to be here.

In simple terms, this is how I create a webpage:

    1) the main page for the site is called index.html
    2) you create a .html page and then (using FTP) you send it up to the server into the folder that your site is named
    3) anything other than index.html will be called: www.themainwebsite/pagewhateveryoucalledit.html

Could someone describe in a few steps like this, the main idea of how you create an email contact form? Basically I want to be able to create a simple "Contact Us" web page where they can type their email and some sentences, then it will be sent to an email address I set up somewhere so I can read it.

I know there are lots of tutorials and technical stuff, and that it involves PHP and having your webserver host do something. I plan to study this stuff heavily. But I was hoping someone could write a 1-2-3 "main idea" here. That way when I am studying all of this information, I understand where it fits in.

So if you had to describe the main idea how to set up an email contact form in three basic steps, what would that be?

    Thanks

If you're not too keen on PHP just yet, check out http://allforms.mailjol.net, it's a pretty decent website.

You design the basic form in HTML (check google for tutorials), input the details on the website above, and done!

Then you have plenty of time to study PHP - it takes time, trust me.

    Good luck!
