Converting movie files to flash on upload.

Hey all, I was doing some searching but I couldn't find a sufficient answer...

I am working on a extreme sports community, where members can upload the videos, pictures, map out their favorite and hidden spots on a large google map, it have forums and such. How ever we were having some problems with the video uploading, so I have decided to take the time to have it all convert to a flash video file before it is finish uploading. However I cannot have a separate script thats on a different DB, because I want to integrate it with the forums and all. So I was wondering if its possible to convert regular video files to a flash video type on upload to the server with a PHP script. Any help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.

I haven't done this yet myself, but if I were to take a crack at it, I'd start with:

    1) Enable users to upload files.
    2) Once the file is uploaded, kick off a shell script that passes the file to a video converter (I'm assuming you're serving from a Linux box)
    3) I'm not quite sure what binary you'd use to do the conversion, but FFMPEG is the first place I'd look.
    4) Associate the new, converted video file with the original upload as well as any other appropriate metadata.

    convert video on server

Hi, to convert video on server side, I suggest you use E.M. Total Video Converter Command Line.
