    Umm..what does this mean?

I downloaded Magic News Lite and it's telling me to do this:
    1. Create directory on your server for Magic News Lite Control Panel.
    2. Make chmod on this directory to 0777. You can make it using your ftp client or ssh server access
    3. Upload all the files from Magic News Lite archive to this directory.
    4. Make chmod on config.php to 0777.
    5. Make chmod on scripts/php-news.php to 0777.
    6. Make chmod on scripts/js-news.php to 0777.
    7. Make chmod on directory install with all included directories to 0777.
    8. Run install.php from your browser.
    9. Enter username & password you want for control panel, web site url, and click install.
    10. Read instructions in the control panel.

What is chmod and 0777, and how do I create it?

chmod is setting the permissions for a folder. You can usually do this very easily through a FTP program.

777 is the highest (most access allowed) level a folder can be set to.

    HTH a little

PHP Tip: If you want to use short tags (<? or <?=$var) then make sure short_open_tag is set to "1". It really helps.

If you use an FTP program, like CuteFTP or WS-FTP or whatever is out there.
Just right click the file names and pick CHMOD and a menu should popup.

If you are uploading using a file manager, you would just set all the options to Read Write Execute, usually there are 6 options for User and Admin, so all six boxes checked would be 777.

Ok, I'm still having a little trouble trying to figure out what this CHMOD is. Is it the whole entire folder?

I'm restarting the steps and anytime I do that, it says I can't access the folder...so I have to reset it to access it. I must be doing something wrong.

This FAILS anytime I change the permissions of any folder.......

Some ftp programs can't chmod anything on some servers. I know on one of the servers I'm working on I must use the control panel provided by the hosting company to chmod anything. You may have to do the same. Do you know whether or not you have CPanel?
