    PHP/sql standalone solution

hi guys, this is my first post and definately wont be the last.

    quick question:
I was asked to write a database solution for a friend.. it was supposed to do the normal add/retrieve/modify/search functions of a databse. i started with vb6 then decided to use php/sql.

I might sound really dumb and ignorant but the question is... if i want to "package" this to him... how can i do this without having to personally go and install a webserver and php and sql and the rest so he can use it just through his web browser? can i use an installer that will allow it to be packaged so after the install he would just have to open the databsae through his browser?

any help would be much appreciated. thanx

The PHP script files are of course the easy part-- just zip em up with instructions to unzip and ftp to the web server. The database schema is slightly more difficult and there are probably "professional" solutions for distribution and installation, but you can probably get by with using myphpadmin's export features to capture all of the "create database" and "create table" statements in one file that can be executed with one MySQL statement (or use myphpadmin on the other end as well).

This answer is probably not the best answer-- hopefully others will mention the "real" solutions

If he installs PHP/MySQL on his own machine, and then configures it all correctly, then yeah it could maybe work. What a royal headache though-- I'd go back to VB6, or even better, Delphi. The PHP/MySQL solution seems like overkill for a local desktop application.

How about Firepages' solution for installing AMP on a USB drive?

    Try php-gtk

You should try php-gtk to do desktop apps in php

    http://gtk.php.net/

But php is for web development. If you want a stand-alone app, its better to use vb or delphi.
