    If your forum has an RSS feed, you just use that.
    Your homepage (which is "index.php") uses a simple feed reader script
    to grab the first five posts from your forum.

    Give us a link to your forum.

    what forum system are you using?
    You can not say you know how to do something, until you can teach it to someone else.

    Here's something interesting:

    http://www.scribbledesigns.co.uk/200...achines-forum/

    And I think they are utilizing the multimedia output:
    http://www.simplemachines.org/about/features.php

    See this part in your simplemachines documentation:
    # Export forum data using XML/RSS

    * Latest members.
    * News.
    * Recent posts.

    If you can get an XML feed for the first 5 items in your particular topic,
    you can use a PHP RSS Reader to capture and display those on any web page.

    So in the example they show in scribbledesigns, you won't be using WordPress, but you'll use
    your own PHP script instead ... like one of these:

    Using Magpie -- http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/
    or
    lastRSS -- http://lastrss.oslab.net/

    EDIT: I think you'll have to set the permissions for the topic so that you can view
    the XML without logging in. I don't know if simplemachines can do that.
    Otherwise, I don't think it will generate a list of the newest 5 items.
