    Explore Script with Images ?

    Hey,

I'm trying to build an MMORPG using PHP and MySQL, its going fine except there is one small problem. When it comes to the explore script, l currently have it so you can move it up, down, left and right. This works fine but it looks really ... boring.

Then my friend showed me this game called Fallen Sword. And they have an explore script and it looks quite awesome. A picture of it is below.

Using PHP, do create a similiar thing, how would it be possible? I've tried searching google for any ideas / help but l have no idea what it is actually called and the results l get are completely unrelated to what l want to create.

    Your insight is greatly appreciated,

    Thankyou

You want to use Flash for this.

There is no reason to use Flash.

You could either build that image in PHP, or use layers in HTML. It's most likely a simple image behind an imagemap (to create clickable regions).

You could use AJAX to load a new image/situation when they click on one of the arrows. And instead of "loading" say "walking" while waiting for the result to come back, this will give a realistic feel to it

I guess we need to tell that to the programmers churning out thousands of Flash games... no reason to use Flash, use PHP and Ajax!
