Saeed - I'm just over a month into the php/javascripts/mysql world, but have been programming for over 30 years. For what it's worth, here's my 2 cents...

I spent about 2-3 weeks with the MS Net/ASP/Visual Web Developer and although it had some appealing qualities (ability to program in VB/C#, an all inclusive IDE), the more I worked with it, the more I disliked it. It felt clunky and confining.

Actually, for a week or so, I kept going back and forth, dabbling in PHP and going back to MS. Finally, the lightbulb came on and I realized the PHP world was for me.

When you first start it's a bit overwhelming as there are so many sources of information and so many options in the PHP world. What framework do you use? Do you build your own? What's this Model-View-Controller (MVC) thing all about? Which IDE do you use? What is AJAX all about (though now that's an issue with MS as well).

Anyway, I'm just a newbie, but so far I'd have to say I'm certain this was the right path for me. It's more fun, you get to be part of codingforums.com, I think your end product will be quicker, more efficient, and closer to what you were trying to do than if you were using MS Net/ASP, and your options as far as hosts and providers are much more (PHP/MySQL is everywhere). My current host is all Unix so going the MS route meant changing, which I wasn't thrilled about doing.

All that said, I'm just a newbie at this stuff, so what do I know but... after ... my god... it's been 35 years of programming... my instincts are pretty good.

PHP is the way to go in my opinion. And yes Tizag.com is fantastic. But I would recommend w3schools.com at the top as it has direct contact with PHP.net staff so I read once(rumor). Which means it's fairly accurate. I'm about 9 Months into PHP and have published one "Private messaging script" and will publish my first client's website within a month so I would recommend PHP and both those websites. Good Luck!

I also found Micro$oft products to be clunky and confining. After spending a lot of time learning to use them, I got so fed up one day, I just decided to focus entirely on Open Source solutions.
