Design Process of Building a PHP/MySQL Driven Website?

I was just wondering what the normal design process is for the experts out there.

Do you first design the application, and the database, and then come back and refine the html, css, and all the aethestic attributes of the site?

Please explain to me the normal procedure you all go through when design a website.

    Thank you.

Design processes differ with the scope of the project, information structure of the content, application tasks etc. Processes used to deliver a standard 6 page business site with cms would be completely different to an information portal with link directory and affiliate sales/advertising.

That being said, in a commercial environment, the design process is primarily based on two metrics, speed and quality. The speed at which a team can deliver the final product determines profit. So the team will usually develop a process over time that results in the quickest delivery and best quality.

In my career I've never come across two studios that work the same way with the same processes. Processes are usually determined by the knowledge and experience of the project director and or the more assertive personalities on the team.
I do Web Design, Brisbane based.
More time spent in PHP/MySQL Web Development.
And Search Engine Optimisation takes up the rest of it.
