RSS is a way to allow people to capture selected parts of your website,
like news items in a blog, or a list of MP3's etc. They use that information
on another website for their own use, or they use it with a dedicated RSS
Reader so they can visually scan the latest things on several website at
    the same time.

You might ask why a person would allow someone to use their web page
info on their own personal sites? Well, every item that is read with the
RSS Reader should be able to link-back to your site. If your information is
valuable, people will be visiting your site from a remote RSS Feed that you
    provided.

I use Yahoo, so I have a bunch of RSS Feeds that I'm interested in, display
right on my Yahoo "my yahoo" page. Each time I go onto my computer, I
get a quick list of the newest articles from someone else's blog.

PHP can easily generate an RSS Feed from a database on your site, or
from specific content on any one of your pages. You need to use a
script like Magpie or LastRSS to generate those RSS Feeds. If you have
WordPress or some other blogger, those will do it for you automatically.

Or you can create your own, but I use magpie (as a reader) as it does what I need it to. Also if you are going to setup an RSS Feed and capture the data from a database, then I suggest employing some caching features so your database isn't hit to retrieve the info each and everytime. I would just create a function that will write the database info to a cache file, then evertime you add/edit/delete another item to it, just clear that cache file. Then when your rss is hit again, it will check for the cache file, if found use it, if not create it.

Give us a link to one of your pages where you would like to create an RSS
feed ... and what would you like the RSS to contain.

OK, now I'm a bit confused here ....

I don't know which direction you are going, RSS feeding or reading?

    Do you ...

    1) Want to create an RSS feed for others to use?
Example, I can use YOUR RSS feeds to put the latest Cricket scores
    on my own website?

    2) You want to use RSS to put scores on YOUR OWN site.
Example, you want an RSS reader to take the scores from someone
else's site and put them on your own Joomla site.

RSS Feed --- (output) you provide the RSS for others
RSS Read --- (input) you read someone else's RSS feeds
