    That's called "watermarking" ...

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

    You have a couple of options. To watermark the image before you
    save it on the server (thus it becomes permanent to the image), or
    saving the image as-is and watermarking only when the image is
    displayed on your site (on-the-fly watermarking).

    I'm watermarking the images as they are displayed, one big advantage is that if I decided to change the wording I don't have to redo the current images. You will need to study the PHP function:

    imagettftext();

    Other usefull image PHP functions are:

    imagegammacorrect (); \\ corrects image gamma for Macs and PC.
    imageconvolution (); \\sharpens images.
    imagecopyresampled(); \\re-size images for thumbnails.

    I use all of the functions above to adjust images on-the-fly for my www.RGBpixels.ca image gallery.
