    A lot of characters are special in the date function. Combine that with a double-quoted string and you have to do a lot of escaping. I single quotes so many backslashes are not required: '\t\h\e'.
    I'm not sure if this was any help, but I hope it didn't make you stupider.

    Experience is something you get just after you really need it.

    Maybe this helps?

    Code:
    $a = "It is the ".date("jS F, Y.");
    echo("$a");
    PHP 5 & MySQL 5 (Y)
