Question Advantages of Perl over JSP

I need to know the general advantages of using Perl over JSP for an ecommerce backend system, but know little about JSPs. Apart from cost and maturity of the language, what advantages would Perl have?

    Many thanks for any replies

i am not highly qualified on this, but...

Perl is a much simpler language to learn. perl scripts for the web are generally fairly easy to create and debug (at least what i've done).

JSP and ASP were developed because the CGI was getting slow. for huge websites, with millions of hits per day, calling a CGI program was no longer feasible. JSP stays loaded into the servers memory and doesn't require a new process for each access. (i'm doing this from memory. don't bet your life i'm exactly correct).

so...if you're going to be developing a high-traffic site, i would recommend the (J|A)SP approach. otherwise, i think perl will suffice for you. could take a peek at PHP too.

you might want to ask this again on the java.sun.com forums, or in the ASP forums on this site. i know that ASP and JSP are different, but they are still the same, if you understand that
