    perl on M$ server 2008?

This may turn out to be overly-general but, as a starting point, please try to help.

my soon-to-be new (possibly), server provider doesn't support apache in normal circumstances. They want me to use MS server 2008 since they do support it. They are also to provide me with other services and therefore, they have a bit more influence over my decision than a 'normal' provider.

Having built my perl files (to be portable as far as I can tell), does perl run on M$ server and could my scripts work OK?

I don't yet know the 'relationship' between the server and the perl processor etc., which may go some way in explaining why I don't know the answer to this?

Perl runs just fine on M$ systems.

The real question to answer is "are your scripts platform independent?" You will most likely need to make adjustments to file paths when switching from *nix to M$ and possibly a few other adjustments if you switch form apache to IIS.

Thanks FishMonger. I have tried to keep the scripts platform independent. But I wonder how much adjustment might be needed and therefore how long an overlap I may need to get it running OK, before closing the apache set-up.

Might the DBI db connection need to be different. oops, asked that too soon. I'll read the docs.
