i'm no master but it could be

    a security/ permissions thing

you need to enable the account IUSER_YOURMACHINENAME for the folders which you intend to use as your virtual directory

How you go about this depends on your OS i believe.
you can set the permissions of any folder in XP or 2k by right clicking and selecting properties
    click the security tab

if the security tab is missing you need to disable simple file sharing.

anyway click on the security tab and a list of users and relevent permissions are shown.

if the iUSER account isn't shown click add
if you know what to type then type it... if you don't click advanced..
at the next dialogue simply click the find now button.
all possible user accounts will be listed for your box.
    choose the IUSER_MACHiNEnAME............ then ok
now IUSER_MACHINENAME is there for you to give read/ write or whatever sort of access you prefer.

this might help if you're struggle to turn off your simple file sharing
