Since regex are not always written in the same way in different languages, it can be hard to find a generic one. Why don't you search for an editor for your personal favorite languages, that supports the regex syntax of that particular language, and stick to that?

Regex is a term relating to a certain type of expressions. There are mathematical regular expressions, UNIX regular exporessions, POSIX regular expressions, PCRE (PERL Compatible Regular Expressions), PERL regular expressions (which aren't really regular expressions any longer), and regular expressions syntaces may vary between different languages even it they use the same basic components. So, it is largely language dependent.

See <http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_Expression> if you want to know more about what a regular expression truly is.
