    setting up FTP on IIS

ok, heres the situation, im trying to allow users to use an ftp account to upload pics or other stuff like that to my server

at the moment im using iis5.1 from windows xp pro but soon i will have iis6 on windows server 2003

i would like to know how to set up a username and password for a subfolder on my site, or something like this

i dont mind if you tell me step by step instructions, or you give me a link to a tutorial, or something like this, as long as i can allow people to up/download from a subfolder on my site while them not getting on the the actual site

incase i forget later, thanks for any help that actually helps

In IIS under the properties for the FTP site, under the Home Directory tab, set the path to whatever sub folder you want.

Then people can access only that folder. If there are folders in there you don't want people accessing, you'll have to add permissions using NTFS security to only allow say the Administrators group or something. (The security tab if you view the properties of a file or folder)

Now if you want user authentication, it isn't too hard. In FTP site properties under the Security Accounts tab, uncheck "Allow Anonymous Connections. Then you can set up a user account and add them under the afore mentioned security tab.

That should work, unless I forgot something. It might be slightly different with IIS6, it shouldn't be that much different.

im pretty sure that all works but "Then you can set up a user account and add them under the afore mentioned security tab."

you will have to elaborate on this, there is an add button under ftp site operatos.. i dont think thats what i want, but its greyed out anyway, so where do i add someone?

I ment if you go through my computer or whatever view the properties of a folder there should be a security tab. If not with XP Pro, you have simple file sharing turned on and you'll have to turn it off.

i really hate to say this but, it didnt help at all... i mean.. all it is is how to redirect to a users folder when they log in, which is fine, but its not my problem

MY problem is that i need step by step instructions on setting up a users folder and account, so that they have a username and passsword TO BE ABLE TO log in

    it needs to be like
    1) make a folder caled this in here
    2) set up this
    3) .........

i know its possible, every1 has seen sites where you want to log in to ur directory and upload files to there. i just want my users to be able to go to ftp://myIP/username, be confronted with a username and password box, enter in their username and password, then put things in their directory

i dont think this should be anything to do with locall accounts or anything like that
