Question How to Backup database - SQL Server 2000

    Hello,

I was looking around for some tutorials about how to backup my database in my hard disk using SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager.

Can someone explain me in a friendly and step-by-step method? (screenshots preferred)

    Thanx so much in advance

I'm sorry, but I do not have time to include screenshots, but it's fairly easy to do.

    • In Enterprise Manager, open the folders that lead to your databases folder. Once you open your databases folder, you'll see your list of databases.
    • Right click on the database you would like to back up.
    • Go to All Tasks -> Backup Database...
    • You'll receive a window with two tabs: General and Options
    • Under the General tab, you should have:
Database: <database name here in dropdown>
      Name: <database name> backup
      Description: <blank>
    • The description is optional and you don't have to change the name unless you want to append the date to the name or something to give the database backup name more meaning.
    • Your backup should be: Database - complete, unless you want a differential backup.
    • For Destination, click the Add... button.
    • To store it to hard disk, there's a "..." button. Click that to select your destination. Once selected, click OK until you're back to the original Backup window.
    • For Overwrite, if you're adding to a backup of a database, use append. If you want to completely overwrite an existing one, do overwrite. If this is not appending or overwriting a previous backup, don't worry about this step.
    • For schedule, that's if you want this backup to be scheduled.
    • Click the Options tab now and you can pretty much leave the default check marks. Click the "Verify backup upon completion" checkbox.

Now you should be good to go. Click OK and there you go.

    Hope that helps!

You must select the Radio button "From Device" and then select the location.
