    column can not be null

    Code:
    update t

    where f = 0
    --> err 1048 column f can not be null

    ?

    Is F part of the primary key on that table?

    The documentation talks about a silent conversion of the column when included in a primary key...

    Do a show create table and see if the definition matches the original code or not?
