reinstall of mysql - error 1045
Hi - Can anyone tell me where the password for mysql is stored so that I can ensure it is deleted on uninstall.
I have been trying to re-install mySQL and it cannot do the last step - apply security settings.
The pop up window says it could be that I still have the old password somewhere so I used a different password and it is true cos to access the mysql monitor I have to use the old password.
I deleted the mysql directory after the previous uninstall so the password must be somewhere else???
Any help much appreciated.

I figured once on linux, before instaling new version:
1. yum remove mysql-server
2. yum remove mysql
but pwd also persists. Didn't go finding where coz I was happy with old one.
On win 7 go to root , CTR+F "mysql". Delete everything it finds + same thing in registry. No guarantie that it will work. I managed to do it once that way.
