Help Putting MySql Result (1 value) into Specific Field on Page

I need some sample PHP code that will demonstrate how to take a single column result and put it in an HTML page - basically, I click on a button and select a unique name from the member table, and want to display it on my page next to Your Name is: ________________

I know sql and I know this sounds easy but I am lost when it comes to formatting the result and placing it in a specific spot on my page. This is not a table, just a single value. Any help is appreciated. -thanks

Plenty of basic examples at php.net:
