    create a text area cache?

ok so here is my problem. I have a database that will eventually store several thousands entries that are indexed with the rest of my code by barcode. because there are severl thousand a drop down list is out of the question. I would like to have something like a text area cache instead. so that when one starts to enter in the data it limits a drop down by the content you have enterd. I would prefer it work exactally like firefox's and IE's text box cache. Is there a way to control these values in js or is there a way i could replicate the look and feel of it? Any help is apprecieated.

AutoComplete/AutoSuggest Ajax Control is probably what you are after.
