Ajax - keep the "get page" from server stats?

i have a chat script that i have successfully set up with AJAX.... BUT when it checks the "chat_refresher.php" which spits out XML data and processes that, chat_refresher.php gets credited with 1 page hit in AWstats (or any other server stats software).....

is there any way i can keep chat_refresher.php from being counted in server stats? because it refreshes alot and appears as the top-viewed page and distorts the page hit counts.

The whole point of XMLHttpRequest() is the HTTP Request part of it. It sends the same sort of request as if you had browsed to the page yourself... I imagine either your logging software needs to have an "exclude" option, or you need to write your own logging software that discounts all hits to pages ending with say, ?ajax (to distinguish between an "ajax"-hit and a normal hit).

ok... but it's built-in software with Cpanel... i cannot change how it operates. IPB with D21 Refresh uses Ajax to refresh Online Stats for board index and "who's viewing this topic", etc every 20 seconds and the pages it uses dont show up in the server stats.
