Updating a URL reference to include system date

I'm sure this is pretty easy (or maybe not) and I'm not sure if this is a java or html related question - probably java but I'm sure someone can do a similar thing in html.

What I have is a set of html files which are created on a daily basis, each filename being created automatically in the format ddmmyy_filename.html. I also have a predefined menu type html page which contains links to the relevant file (currently without the ddmmyy_ at the front end). I would like the link reference to automatically append the system date/time in the correct format such that I no longer have to spend time each day renaming files etc.

I understand the theory of what I want, but haven't got a clue how I could do this in java - any help greatly appreciated.

This sounds to me like something to write in php. Are you sure you want to use java for it?

ideally yes, either java or straight html.

Currently impossible to use php but will be considered at later stage.
