    Mozilla vs IE Javascript window.opener

    this has probably been posted a billion times .......... BUT

    when using upload features on my sites, i pop up a window to upload images/docs(progress.asp upload). this window posts to a third page for the upload functions(progress_upload.asp). In IE window.opener.formname.fieldname.value='variable'. this works famously with IE, but not with Mozilla FF and MAC OS IE 5.+. it has no problem with posting back the value. Javascript does not pass the value back and hangs in mozilla and macOS IE5.+ and thus will not do the window.close(). What is the workaround so that it will work for both browsers.??

    <script>
    window.opener.EditForm.hdnform.value ="<%=File.OriginalFileName%>";
    alert("upload successful");
    window.close();
    </script>

    I see this in a lot of blogs and forums, but no good examples

    please help

    Try fully qualifying the element reference.
    window.opener.document.forms[formname].elements[elementname]
