Unhappy Chromeless, Containerless or Frameless window using showModalDialog

    Hi friends,

I have website that shows frameless window.
Some call it containerless or chromless window.
It is the window that doesn't show borders or anything accept document.
    Here is an example:
    http://llkl.net/abeer.html

    I did it using window.open("","","fullscreen")
However some popup blockers block the function of open() even for normal windows.
Can I do frameless windows using window.showModalDialog() as the blockers allow this function
to work, but I can only open normal windows not frameless by using it.

Is any body know a way to do frameless window using showModalDialog() or by any another way rather than
    using window.open().
    Thanks a lot in advance.

That was a bug in Internet Explorer. Microsoft fixed it in a patch and also in the WinXP SP2 security enhancements for Internet Explorer. You can no longer open a window without title bar and status bar at all from the Internet zone.

It's the user's browser, not yours. Live with it.

    Hi liorean,

Where I can find that that was a bug?
Because somebody want this to be done and it will be helpful to improve that
this will be changed in future.

it was fixed with XP/SP2. if you google for "microsoft xp sp 2 changes" you might find the answer. the answer is certainly on the M$ site, but i don't have the URL to hand.

why do they want this anyway? it's a kinda dated methodology, if ya ask me.

Microsoft documentation or press releases relevant to the feature, especially the security changes documentation for WinXP SP2. It only worked in the first place because Microsoft took advantage of undocumented Win32 API behavior.

Deliberately hiding the mechanisms that identifies a window as an Internet Explorer window is considered a high security risk when opened from the Internet zone since it could be used to produce visually perfect copies of system windows such as the HTTP Auth dialogue, which would mean a malicious use could result in users usernames and passwords being stolen, among other things. Try using an HTA if you really, really need it.
