    window.open opens BUT window hidden

    Dear friends,

    Using this code to open secondary window with control:

    <a href="javascript:void window.open
    ( 'lotus_meanings.html',
    'MyWin','width=300,height=400, toolbar=0,
    menubar=0, status=1, scrollbars=0, resizable=1' )">
    MEANINGS</a>

    It works just fine on mouse click. Small window opens just as needed.

    However, on the same document, the same method is used to refer to the window, but above instance is still open, to display another document in it.

    <a href="javascript:void window.open
    ( 'lotus_benefits.html',
    'MyWin','width=300,height=400, toolbar=0,
    menubar=0, status=1, scrollbars=0, resizable=1' )">
    BENEFITS</a>

    It does load the small window with the right page, BUT, if the little window is open and behind another window, it opens hidden behind and the user will surely think nothing is happening.

    Have this little code on each of the secondary pages:

    <body
    onBlur="this.focus()";
    bgcolor="#ffffcc">

    But once the little window is behind the main page, it does not go to the foreground, unless one clicks on it by hand.

    Hope it's something simple, and would appreciate the help.

    Thanks, friends.

    THANKS Kor,

    Will try tomorrow. Have been on this thing for HOURS and HOURS and have it working with some blur-focus stuff.

    HOWEVER Just found that the I.E. is SO different than the FireFox.

    In the FireFox the window HIDES behind the caller, and there seems no way to put it in front, unless maybe one do a function or so.

    HOWEVER on the I.E. it works kind of nice. The secondary window HAS to be closed otherwise the caller window does can not be touched by the mouse.

    ALSO, am calling a photo window form one of the secondary windows and in the Firefox the photo (3d window) HIDES behind the caller window, but in the I.E., it does OK.

    ANOTHER BIG PROBLEM for me here is that the the FireFox (latest version) KEEPS READING the secondary windows from a BUFFER, and it had me crazy up-loading and up-loading the secondary pages (they are small). Now since the secondary window DOES NOT have a refressh buffer, THERE IS YET NO WAY to make FireFox read those pages right, UNLESS, probably I clear the browser buffer. However, the I.E. reads the same page correctly.

    The FireFox browser DOES NOT refresh pages very nicely, for it even gives me the main page wrong from the computer buffer UNLESS i refresh it from the browser refresh button. That's all really bad. I like the FireFox very much, but it seems to have some bug there, probably in order to make it work faster than the I.E.

    What this means is that I change a page locally and upload it and no way the FireFox reads the new version. That's a problem on any page but can be refreshed. The windows with no refresh button, though, can not in any way so far be made to update.

    If anyone knows any better or different, or says the same, would like to hear from him/her.

    Thanks.

    You must think that a lot of people may have disable pop-ups (that is true, most of them only onload). Some of them, not meny it is true, may have javascript disable.

    Thus, you may think to another aproach for your problem, such as building layers with a 'popup' appearence, displayed none/block, especially if you are dealing with pictures and small amount of text. Keep the HTML a href links, with target _blank for those which might have javascript disabled.

    Or even better use iframes, rather that popups, with the same behaviour as described above.

    Neh... We have had this sort of discussion here and there about this issue... After all, everything can be used in malicious way, if bad intention... What to do, banning the knives if some evils use them to heart or kill?

    On the other hand... it's like on TV... if I feel spamed on a site, if I don't like those darn advertising, just quit the page/switch the program and never return....

    Thaks, Kor.

    The pages that am making are rather simple and the effort is to keep them so as much as possible.

    Have been quite surprised of finding so many incompatibilities still in browsers, but it's the way things are in almost anything.

    Aprreciate your help.

    Dear jbot,

    The personal experience here is that there is already more than enough burden and challenge in the effort due to the partaking of proper activities, let-alone improper ones.

    Best wishes.

    sorry, mbl, i wasn't trying to have a go. but so many people come on here and expect to get help that ultimately hurts us all.

    in truth i was more annoyed with Kor not being cirumspect. tho in the end anyone can work it all out for themselves.

    cheers

    Let's say that I have "smelled" that mbl efforts are in for a fair purpose...

    On the other hand I haven't give him the "big fish", I have only suggest him to get a proper fishing rod. If we suspect one each other of malicious intentions all the time, no one will help no one ever...
