    Network Camera picture ftp help.

I am in a situation regarding Network Cameras.

I am FTPing finally from my network camera to my rented web site.

    Now this situation:
I want to display the image in my website; thus, the name of this file must be the same all the time (I think.).

But the camera upload a file to a directory called "8_15_2004" depending of the day and the file "21_56_06GMT.JPG" depending on the time.

I want to copy this upload file to a static name in order to show it on my webpage.

I think I need a java script to grab this file and copy it to an static name; e.g., "camerapicture". disregarding the name of the foler or the name of the file.

Finally I want to delete the these files. If not the space fill up quite quickly.

The problem, I see with this methods, is that files won't be delete when the script is not running or when no one is looking at the page.

this can't be done with javascript; it could be done with a server side language, such as Perl or PHP. however, it would probably be best accomplished by the software you're using to upload the picture anyway. most likely, there is an option within the software that will allow you to have a staticly named picture instead.

    Unhappy

    NOOOOOOooooooooooo!!!!!

Cannot be. You telling me that you cannot use the java language syntax to trim a file name; e.g., "81704gm.jpg" and assign it to a variable to become "mypicture.jpg". Then use a delete command to delete a file(s) based in their name; e.g., delete "*gm.jpg" or based on time signature.

I forgot to add that this network camera ftp files directly to the remote web hosting and they are connected directly to the internet (no pc).

The ftp does not (at least this camera) offer much option into the selection of the name of the upload file.

fair enough; you still need a server side language, though; this is beyond the ability of javascript.

to be clear: this is a javascript forum, and you specifically asked about javascript in your first post. if you're looking to use java, and not javascript, you're in the wrong place.

The FTP questions were regarding my intention to place live images or video on a rented website I got.

I contacted Orite rep at Canada (canvision) and they provided me with a javascript that placed this images in my rented website. How? I don't know that much about javascript.

If anyone care to see what I ment please visit my page:

Now, I want to buy a camera to do the samething but with PTZ capabilities.
I think that Panasonic KX-HCM230 and KX-HCM280 provide this capability.

    Any comments?

*sulk* i sometimes rather wish the name Livescript were brought back for JS - it would save on so much confusion. one can only dream!
