    Question wrinting to a file

is it possible to use javascript to write data to a file for reference to be used later on? and is it possible to retrieve the data as well? or do i need a server-side program to do both?

JavaScript cannot write to a file (except a cookie) and hence you need server-side language and capability for this.

    not necessarily.

you can use JScript/ActiveX to write to files either locally or on a remote server using textstreaming!

however, this is Win-IE only, so it's only useful 4 intranets or HTAs.
