OK, here's the deal..... I'm looking to code something pretty major, and I know I'm in over my head. I was curious as to whether or not anyone would be capable of helping me code this.
I've been looking to try coding a roleplay chat room for a while now, but the more I think about it, the more confusing/complicated it seems. I'm just what would be the easiest way to code this.
Say there's 3 rooms in this chat room. You enter room 3 and you're immediately greeted with a paragraph of text describing your surroundings. If you idle in chat for a long while, "gold rains down from the sky." You're able to pick this up and bind it to your account by typing some command (i.e.: /pickup gold.) This gold is able to be traded with other users (i.e.: /trade Kirn 5g.)
It gets trickier when it comes to the forums. I want the chat/forum databases to be integrated (naturally), but this also means that any gold gained from the chat room is sitting on your forum character, too.
People on the forums will gain gold from posting in certain areas in the forums (i.e.: post in Forum 2 with a submission passing a predetermined word limit, you get 2 gold.) People on forums should also be able to exchange gold with other users.
A user's forum and chat profile should be the same, but I guess that'd just be routing it to the same database.... Right?
Soo.... anyway, after that really long wall of text.... What TYPE of coding am I wanting to learn/use here? Or would I be leaning more towards a "mud game" type of coding to achieve this effect? And, last but not least, if this is far too complex for someone to learn, should I just not bother and try hiring someone to do it for me instead, or would that be super expensive?
