Question Custom music player with attributes for changing elements in div's

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie, hope you can help...

I'm not sure if this possible with Javascript or CSS alone, or both combined. I've no knowledge of js, and very little of CSS.

I'm looking to create a music player for my website with simple play, pause, next and back controls.

These controls also need to change a few things however on click: -

Play - will play the music and automatically scroll lyrics placed in a div block element (which is simply used so I may place this where i please on my site... I'm not using tables for structure).

I'd like the text to fade from the bottom to the top - like the star wars intro. Maybe this could be done like a movie clip to play in sync with the track length... I don't know?

Pause - will stop the music and stop the text from scrolling. Pressing 'Play' again on from this will continue from where it left off.

Next - will move onto the next track and also change the text div for the next tracks lyrics, and also change a background image (which will be in another div). I'd like to do this with a fade if possible.

Back - will do the opposite of 'Next', and move back a track... change picture and text...

I think that's it in essence. I hope I've explained it well.

Thank in advance for any help with this, much obliged!

    Ash

Sounds a big ask! You can't expect people to write the complete code for a music player for you gratis. Presumably you would not attempt to desgn, build, service or repair a machine or appliance without any experience or understanding of how it worked. My advice would be - learn Javascript and CSS.

All the code given in this post has been tested and is intended to address the question asked.
Unless stated otherwise it is not just a demonstration.

Thanks for the reply, I understand this a big ask for sure! I'm sure I can get the code for simple buttons to play music etc, it's just the background image changes, fades and text scrolling... controlling elements in div's I'd struggle with. I'm happy coding CSS style sheets. Can you help?

    Best,

    Ash

This forum is not a free coding service. As a general rule, the people helping out in this forum don't write code for others, but try to help with fixing code that doesn't work. You may perhaps get someone to write this script for you, but you'll be far more likely to get help if you have made a substantial effort and written some code yourself. Then someone here will almost certainly help you correct/improve your work.

I thought you said that you know very little of CSS, and nothing of Javascript.

I know how to add CSS style sheets, that's pretty easy to a point in Dreamweaver, but Javascript is beyond me, I wouldn't know where to start to be honest hence why I'm asking for help. I've been searching Youtube for some vids on this but can't find much info

Is Javascript what I should be looking at to do this? I'm sorry if I thought this an easy task someone could advise to change attributes with 'if' tags, etc...

As Old Pedant said recently, "It may or may not come as a surprise to you, but NightmarishStalker (the much more descriptive name for DreamWeaver) produces about the worst and most out of date JavaScript code possible. Such as new String(). Nobody that I know of in this forum is really willing to tackle DrunkWhomper code. We all prefer to just toss it out and use *GOOD* code."

I am afraid that you are trying to run before you can crawl. And what you are asking for is by no means an easy task.

Please kindly advise where I need to start. I'm not a web designer/developer by any means and just wish to know how to do this, not all the intricacies of coding languages. is jQuery an option instead or inclusive of this task? I just need a leg up, please!

I have told you - start by learning Javascript and CSS. That will take you around 1-2 years to become fluent. No, I would not advise using jQuery until you have mastered Javascript.

Please re-read the previous posts and recognise that what you are seeking to do is far beyond your present abilities. It is slightly insulting to the experienced contributors to this forum to suggest that anyone can do their work with some snippets of code, a few hours of internet searching or by using the hideous Dreamweaver.

Let's end this thread now, please.

I don't want to learn coding languages, and thus I'm certainly not going to spend 2 years wasting my time for just this one thing I'm asking for help with. I'm disappointed at not even a glimmer of "hey Ashley, thanks for joining the community, sure we'll gladly point you in the right direction of where to start"... other than, go read a book/take a course and study 1-2 years, and now i want to close the thread. I obviously joined the wrong forum, there's lots more people that are willing to help elsewhere.

Well, when you find them please tell us where they are. I told you very clearly where to start. One more time - this form is not a free coding service. You will perhaps have noticed that the many other contributors to this forum have not rushed in to offer to write your code for you.

You say that you do do want to learn coding languages - that is as silly as saying that you want to write an essay in French but don't want to learn the French language.

Another suggestion - do what you would do in any other situation where you lack the necessary skills - pay a professional to do the job.

And end this thread now, please.
