    Gather emails

    Hi there

I'm dave from the netherlands and not the best coder out there.
At the moment I'm working on a website that needs to show how many people that want a specific product.. The product itself doesn't excist yet but if a lot of people want one we are going to make it..

The website and everything is going great, but showing the number of people that are interested is difficult.

I would like to have a button which says ' i'm interested' If you click it you get a little pop-up or something where you can: fill in your e-mail, name and country. once it finished the counter on the homepage goes one number up.
Next to this I would like to store all the email on an easy way..
Anyone has a good idea for this?
THirth part services like mailchimp might do the trick but are pretty expensive...

hopefully you can help me along

You can't do this with HTML and JavaScript, alone. You need some server-side code (PHP/ASP/JSP) that collects the responses and saves them on the server, preferably in a database but possibly in a text file only you know about.

Sorry, last post got caught in the moderation queue. I’m bumping the thread to the top so it doesn’t get overseen.

Well, first you have to decide what server side technology you will use: PHP/ASP/ASP.NET/JSP/something else.

But in any of those, you are talking about only one page of server-side coding. Just storing the contents of a POST-ed <form> into a database table.

Choose a technology and then go ask in the appropriate forum.

Oh...but the "popup" aspects of the <form> could well involve using JavaScript, but I wouldn't worry about that until you get the basics working.
