    Learning Javascript

    Hey guys,

To provide some background, i've been learning web dev, and coding thanks to the help of members of this forum, as I was a complete newb before joining. I have a pretty good grasp on HTML & CSS, and I want to start moving into the functionality part of coding by learning Javascript.

If you guys could share websites, tools, youtube accounts, that you found useful when you were first learning Javascript that would be great!

look forward to your suggestions guys,

    thanks

    Thanks DanInMa for your response,

I've looked through those and there are a couple use-able sources although for the most part they come off as dated to me.

Looking for new relevant suggestions, on learning Javascript.

Don't go near w3schools to learn JavaScript - their JavaScript section is so dated that you will have to forget 90% of it when you finally learn JavaScript properly.

Don't forget to start your JavaScript code with "use strict"; which makes it easier to find errors in your code.

watch doug crockfords video on javascript. he has a few "beginner" ones that actually took my about a year to fully understand and appreciate. most of them are on yahoo video, but a google video search should find them all.

The JavaScript Programming Language, The Good Parts, Principles of Security, and the "trilogy" are especially insightful.

some are a little dry at times, but nowhere near as bad as others. Dougs funny and smart and makes it an enjoyable experience. If you don't learn anything from watching one, consider yourself an expert.
